The Department of Mathematics at Sri Vasavi College (Aided Wing) is one of the pioneering departments of the institution, established with the vision of promoting logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities among students. Since its inception, the department has maintained an outstanding academic record and continues to be a symbol of precision, discipline and intellectual rigor.
The department boasts a team of dedicated and experienced faculty members who constantly strive to nurture young mathematicians and equip them with the skills required for academic, industrial and research careers. Regular seminars, workshops, guest lectures and intercollegiate competitions are conducted to strengthen conceptual clarity and research aptitude.
The department’s emphasis on both pure and applied mathematics ensures that students develop a balanced understanding of theory and practical application, making them ready to face the challenges of modern scientific and technological fields.
“Mathematics is the language of logic and the foundation of innovation — we prepare students to master both.”
The B.Sc. Mathematics programme is a three-year undergraduate degree designed to provide a strong foundation in mathematical theory, structure and computation. The course develops problem-solving skills, abstract reasoning and analytical ability that are applicable across science, technology and economics.
Students are exposed to a wide spectrum of mathematical concepts ranging from Algebra, Calculus, and Geometry to Statistics, Mechanics and Operations Research. The course also integrates computer-based mathematical modeling and real-world problem-solving exercises to enhance understanding and application.
This programme prepares students for postgraduate studies, research, teaching and analytical careers in both academic and industrial environments.
The curriculum follows the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) prescribed by Bharathiar University, combining theoretical depth with computational practice.
Classical Algebra & Trigonometry.
Analytical Geometry & Differential Calculus.
Integral Calculus & Differential Equations.
Real Analysis & Complex Analysis
Abstract Algebra & Linear Algebra.
Numerical Methods & Operations Research.
Mechanics, Probability & Statistics.
Mathematical Programming & Optimization.
Allied Papers: Physics, Computer Science, or Statistics (as per stream).
The curriculum encourages continuous assessment, project work, and computer-aided learning through software like MATLAB, GeoGebra, and MS Excel to integrate mathematical theory with application.
The department maintains a well-equipped Mathematics Computer Lab that facilitates computational and numerical learning. The lab is furnished with modern computers and licensed software for Mathematical Modeling, Data Analysis and Statistical Simulations.
Students use tools like MATLAB, Python, GeoGebra and Excel for solving equations, graph plotting, and analyzing data. Regular practical sessions and workshops are conducted to strengthen numerical and programming skills.
This lab plays a vital role in bridging theoretical mathematics with real-time applications in research, finance and data analytics.
To provide quality education in mathematics that promotes logical and analytical thinking.
To nurture research-oriented minds capable of applying mathematical concepts to real-world challenges.
To create graduates who demonstrate intellectual curiosity, ethical values and academic excellence.
To promote interdisciplinary learning through mathematical modeling, computation and statistics.
“Our mission is to transform mathematical learning into meaningful understanding and creative problem-solving.”
To become a centre of excellence in mathematical education and research, fostering innovation, computational thinking and intellectual growth.
The department envisions producing mathematically skilled graduates who can contribute to science, technology, data analysis and education with integrity and precision.
“Our vision is to inspire every learner to see mathematics not as a subject, but as a way of thinking.”
Graduates of B.Sc. Mathematics have diverse career paths and opportunities in both academic and professional sectors. Potential roles include:
Teaching and Higher Education (after B.Ed., M.Sc., or NET/SET)
Banking, Finance, and Insurance Sectors.
Data Analytics and Actuarial Science
Software Development and IT Services
Statistical Research and Market Analysis
