The Department of History at Sri Vasavi College (Aided Wing) has been a cornerstone of the institution since its inception, devoted to the study of human civilization, culture, and heritage. The B.A. History programme is a three-year undergraduate course designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of Indian, Ancient, Medieval and Modern World History, along with historiography, archaeology and political thought.
The course aims to equip students with historical awareness, research skills, and analytical capabilities to understand and interpret the forces that have shaped civilizations and human institutions. It also provides insights into the economic, social and cultural aspects of history, enabling students to view contemporary issues with a historical perspective.
In addition to classroom learning, the department organizes field visits to museums, forts, monuments and archives, ensuring a practical understanding of historical study.
The curriculum is structured under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) prescribed by Bharathiar University. It combines theoretical, methodological and experiential learning.
