About the Department
Department of Mathematics
Established in 1969, the Department of Mathematics has been a centre of academic excellence and intellectual growth for over five decades. With well-qualified and experienced faculty members, the department is dedicated to nurturing analytical thinking, logical reasoning, problem-solving skills and research aptitude among students.
The department consistently secures University Ranks, reflecting the commitment and hard work of both faculty and students. It is supported by a well-equipped library with around 750 books covering core subjects and competitive examinations such as TNPSC and UPSC.
To enhance the teaching–learning process, the department offers two Smart Classrooms with modern digital facilities and glass boards in all classrooms for effective and interactive instruction.
The department fosters a strong research culture, with faculty members having successfully guided numerous M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars in various fields of Mathematics.
To connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications, industrial visits are organized to reputed institutions such as Vainu Bappu Observatory, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Indian Space Research Organisation, and Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.
Graduates secure placements in government sectors, State and Central Government services through TNPSC, banking sectors and leading companies such as Wipro, Zoho, Tata Consultancy Services, Capgemini and DesiCrew Solutions.
All Government scholarships, including Central Sector Scholarships, Pudhumai Penn Scholarship and Tamil Pudhalvan Scholarship are available to eligible students. In addition, the College provides Endowment (Cash) Scholarships to meritorious students.
The Mathematics Department Alumni also offers scholarships exclusively for Mathematics students, generously contributed by Mr. M. S. Hariharan (B.Sc. Mathematics, 1993–1996), USA.
