Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science was established in the academic year 1986–1987 with the objective of imparting quality education in the field of Computer Science. Since its inception, the department has been offering the B.Sc. Computer Science programme with a sanctioned strength of 35 students. The department has been offering the M.Phil. in Computer Scienceprogramme since 1992, encouraging students to pursue advanced studies and research in emerging areas of computing.
In the academic year 2011–2012, the department was recognized as a Research Centre in Computer Science, enabling it to offer the Ph.D. programme under the affiliating university. So far, seven research scholars have successfully completed their Ph.D. degrees, and eight scholars are currently pursuing their doctoral research in various specialized domains of Computer Science.
During 2008–2009, the department received Rs. 7,00,000 as seed funding from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to conduct a Career Oriented Programme titled “Certificate Course in Desktop Publishing (DTP)”. Through this programme, students receive practical training in desktop publishing tools and technologies. As a result, many students gain valuable industry-oriented skills and secure employment opportunities in publishing and media-related industries every year.
The department continuously strives to enhance academic excellence, promote research activities, and equip students with the necessary technical skills to meet the evolving demands of the IT industry.
Research Activities
The Department of Computer Science has been functioning as a recognized Research Centre since the academic year 2011–2012, offering Ph.D. programmes in Computer Science. The department encourages research activities in emerging and interdisciplinary areas of computing.
Faculty members guide research scholars in various domains such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, IoT, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Software Engineering and Computer Networks. The department promotes a research-oriented environment by encouraging scholars and faculty members to publish their findings in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
Regular research discussions and seminars are conducted to support research scholars in developing innovative ideas and strengthening their research methodologies.
Achievements of the Department
The Department of Computer Science has consistently maintained academic excellence and research development since its establishment. The department has successfully produced Seven Ph.D. scholars, and several research scholars are currently pursuing their doctoral studies under the guidance of experienced faculty members.
Faculty members actively participate in national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, and faculty development programmes, and publishes research papers in reputed journals. The department also organizes seminars, guest lectures, and training programmes for students. With financial support from the University Grants Commission, the department conducted a Career Oriented Programme in Desktop Publishing, which has helped students enhance their technical skills and employability.
Placement Details
The Department of Computer Science focuses on enhancing the employability and career development of its students through academic excellence, technical training, and career guidance programmes. Students are equipped with practical skills and industry-oriented knowledge to meet the requirements of the IT and related sectors.
Over the years, students of the department have been successfully placed in reputed software companies such as Wipro, Infosys, NTT DATA, and NorthStar Group Inc. Many graduates also secure opportunities in software development firms, IT services, publishing industries, and other technology-driven organizations.
